Illustrating an envelope with a recognizable portrait is quite a challenge of my drawing abilities. I usually spend a fair bit of time finding the right reference photo, and then make at least one practice sketch before tackling the envelope. Here are the few portraits I've done on envelopes:

Charles Dickens. Mailed Aug. 27, 2012

Frida Kahlo. Mailed Oct. 15, 2013

Jimi Hendrix (in anticipation of the Mar. 13 release of the Jimi Hendrix commemorative stamp).
Mailed Mar. 4, 2014

Nurse Ratched. Mailed Mar. 20, 2014

Dylan Thomas. Mailed Nov. 17, 2014

Self portrait, done to express my embarrassment at not getting the meaning of an "I Lichtenstein" button.
Mailed Aug. 13, 2012
